hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me. I run a network of 20 comps. we have 2 servers set up, one is Server 2003 and the other Server 2000.
The problem I'm having is that I can't connect to the share on Server 2000 by its name i.e. \\servername\share. However, I can access it via \\000.000.000.000\share etc.
can anyone shed any light as to why this is happening, as I can access the share on Server 2003 normally.
The error message I get is: windows cannot find "\\server\c$". check the spelling and try again, or try searching for the item by clicking the start button and then clicking search.

Have you confirmed that the netbios name and DNS entry are the same?

Sounds like a name resolution issue. \\computername as already mentioned is NETBIOS. Do you have a WINS server? If not, you either should consider setting one up, or add an entry into your LMHosts file.
