Hi,
I am trying to backup all of our XP network clients using Windows NTBackup. When I expand the nodes 'My Network Places' is always greyed out and so is its subnodes e.g. 'Entire Network'. Any help will be greatly appreciated as backing up the client machines is a priority now. Thanks in advance.

The obvious question is why are you backing up all the clients?
Have you thought about a file server to centrally store user data?
"How many squirrels had to die to make you look fly?!"

What kind of server do you recommend to use it as a file server? I have a domain with 75 users and most of them just use MS Office. How slow does it feel when using a file server?
Our network runs at 100 MbpsThanks.

Doesn't feel slow at all. Your users won't know the difference. You can also use Offline files in case the server is down, they can still do their work without interruption.
An entry level 1U with mirrored drives would be about all you need, although you could get something beefier if you work with a lot of data or expect major growth.
Folder redirection via GPO can move their My Docs to the file server easily.

Youd be looking at maybe 3Grand for a decent rack mount or tower HP Proliant Server and GOD would you make your life easier. You have essentially a 75 person peer to peer now which is just bad in so many ways when you consider what you could have productivity wise

Hi,
I have convinced Senior Management to backup user data instead. So I don't need to worry about backing up clients. I was mystified as to why they wanted to do this also.
Thanks anyway.

Just for peoples records, the reason I couldn't attach to these machines was because they had Windows Firewall on. Once removed I was able to access each machine.

Should make exceptions within the firewall, not turn the firewall off...
