Well i think this is the weirdest problem i've come acrossed... well i came to notice that when i was not able to access one of the machines in the network. I checked the event log and showed me something The security system detected an authentication error of the server... well i went through some sites looking for clue.. i thought of restartin the pc, but i notice that, on the logon option it didn't showes log off administrator, but it showed log off "tAuRaS", despite of the fact that i had logged in as administrator... i created another super user account, there was no prb with that.... can anythin be done to repair the
"administrator" account? or i have to delete that account, and what is the possible cause of this mess.... reply awaited....

all the machines in the network without any

i'm facing this problem.... i'm able to
access that machine with its ip-address, but
the moment i enter its DNS name, i get an
error message "\\xyz is not accessible, You
might not have permission to use this network
resources."... any solutions....

Access via ip but not name indicates no entry in the local dns servers database. Configure dns to autoupdate from dhcp [if you are using a ms server giving out dhcp] or manually enter the dns host and ptr records.

I would suggest "tAuRaS" was setup for autologon at some point. Search the registry for that exact entry and edit the key [not delete] and remove the string "tAuRaS"

hey wanderer, glad to have ur response... :) well, the machine has been formatted recently... i dunno frm where the heck is it pickin up that name, in the registry where do i have to check it, in "CurrentControlSet" ...... ? well.. the problem is that i'm able to access all the machines in the network within the network without any issues, but, only with that particular machine, i'm facin this prb, when i enter its net-bios name, to access it, it says "u have no permission to access that machine on the network", i checked the system event log, n there was an error code "40960",
well, i created a different account, with admin priviliges jus to check if this prb is related to the account or wat, coz, "logoff tAuRaS" gave me a feelin that the account settings have got corrupted... well i tried to accesss that machine with a new account with admin priviliges, n, i was able to access that machine,

so wat wod u suggest in this case, i'm workin at my end too, n any suggestion frm ur end is highly appreciated, thanx... :)

Is that name showing in the User Accounts list? Or is it showing in the Profiles?

It may just be easier to reload it.

So you searched the registry and found taurus. So edit the string and remove taurus. Be sure not to delete the key but just edit it.

Also you could not have formatted the pc and reloaded it as you stated above or you would have a clean and clear registry. So what did you do specifically?

Besides seeing taurus when logging out where else are you seeing it?

You are spyware/malware free correct? You did scans and made sure to update the software?

"but it showed log off "tAuRaS" WHERE did this show? On the screen you see when you do Ctrl-Alt-Delete while logged in? What's the Computer Name?

In the Registry, in what EXACT key did you see it? Microsoft->WIndows->Explorer... under what Hive?

Hi wanderer n Jennifer...
thanx a lot for ur replies...
well i don't think so there was a way out...
actually i feel that administrator account
was acting weird. if i logged in thru
administrator i could see 40960 error, i made
another account with the same privileges, n
it was working fine... well tried hard... but
finally had no choice... i was deeply
interested in sorting out the issue.... well
n regarding that "tAuRaS"... Jennifer, its
appearing,
Start->ShutDown->Log off tAuRaS.. modifyin
the registry didn't help either...as nothin
changed... i'm still gettin that.....

And you haven't answered my questions. What exact location in the Registry did you find taurus? What is the computer name? How about posting a screen shot?
