http://www.computing.net/windows2003/wwwboard/forum/1722.htmlMy current DC (win2003) runs roaming profiles for all the users it authenticates. I want to setup another DC as a backup.
Will the new backup DC, if i select 'additional DC for an existing doamin', hold my roaming profile data? If not, then how do i handle the backup of Roaming Profiles?
all Virture destorys itself as soon as it ceases to be Longing and Humility. Harut! Marut!

Actually there would be several ways to backup. On a small site or "Root Forest Domain setup", the shadows feature is probably what you are thinking of for fast recovery of your active directory, and using name spaces on seperate hard drives for the work share files and user profiles to keep everyone online and working if the MC goes down. Security is already being replicated on both servers if DNS is setup properly. I personally like to use the Group Policies and a little scripting to get the same thing done. For my networks this is fine but for more complex senerios, I would think a mixture of the technologies like replication, shadowing work files or using File Services, using group policies and the Distributed File System would all help provide a redundent and highly availible site enviornment. But bottom line is that your information needs to be regulerly backed up on a seperate physical drive......I like the centralized administration of roaming profiles and the fact that with policies one can redirect and backup anywhere in any event and not be hasseled by end users workstations. Its all in the Active Directory Scheme. look here for more info.
