Adding register key in group policy

How to I add a register key to group policy, will it work with XP and 2000 client if they are just domain users on local machine. If not will VB script do the job for both OS and run if domain user on local machine.

I haven't extensively used GPO, but I think there are somethings that GPO can't do but I can run in registry to make it happen. But couldn't see any options in GPO to add my own registery.
