Hello all..
I'm trying to set up my first active directory system at home but I cant get it to work at all.
I used the info from http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_install_active_directory_on_windows_2003.htm to install AD, however when I try to log on to it with a win XP system I get a message telling me that the domain is not found ..need help bad, caus i'm a total noob at this..
greetings
me is noob

Did you set up a user on the server so your work station could log on? Make sure that the user you set up has the same login and password as the log in on the workstation. Then you have to join the Domain with that work station.

I'm not sure what tmac is talking about, but what you need to do is join your XP machine to the domain. If you have not done that, you need to. If you have, and still can't log in, you need to make sure the Preferred DNS server is set correctly on your client machine. In the Properties of TCP/IP in the Properties of My Network Place/ Local area connection, make sure the Preferred DNS server is set to the IP Address of your domain controller. The inability of a client to locate a domain or contact a domain controller is almost always a DNS issue.
Good luck.

Make sure you have the rights to add a machine to the domain or have been delegated the rights to do so.

Hey all.
My prob is this. I am using vmware to test the following out. I have created an OU on the win2k3 box, and made a test user inside the OU. I have created a GPO for that OU with some permissions & restrictions. When i log onto the domain using a workstation as the test user.. 1 it takes ages to log in 2 the GPO isnt applied. Any ideas ?
