I don't see why you would have to run dcpromo. The server was already a DC. Are you getting an error message? Look at the event viewer for other error messages.

thanks, i mean, if i have to run dcpromo in order to remove Active directory from wins2k3, and later run dcpromo again to promove as a dc?

o if there is some .dll that i could re-registry that solve the dsa.msc erro?

i have a prompt message that says that could not find the file so the operation didnt complete (any time that i try to admin AD in win2K3), but in the event log there in nothing, no one error or warning related.......thanks again

You can try dcpromo but I thought there might be another answer to your problem. What service pack is running? I noticed that there are 2 versions of adminpack.msi, one for SP1 and one for SP2. dsa.msc is in there.

I would try to reinstall adminpak.msi from that site before running dcpromo. However, there is another forum at www.minasi.com Those guys deal with Active Directory on a daily basis. They might have a better answer for you.
