We have a small AD domain setup on one machine but we are doing to need to change the doamin name. After reading posts and white papers on domian renames i got a little worried.I do have 2 servers on the network. how much pain would i have to go through to setup the new domain on the 2nd machine and import all the policies and user accounts from the old domain. Heck is it even possible to move thoses things between 2 seperate domains. I have found a lot of info on moving domains to another machines but they allways have the same doamin name.

can go either way, sometimes it can work great and other times a nightmare even though it would seem easy. make sure you have a backup and be prepared to reinstall everything should you have to....sounds like alot of work, I know but, just make sure you give yourself enough time to do so should it come to it.

There is a migration tool for W2K ->W2K3 for both intra and inter-forest. I don't know for sure if it will work from W2K3 ->W2K3. One would think so, but you will have to check that out. If so, one would think it would make the job a lot easier. That is just for accounts - GPOs are another issue.
