Check Microsoft for protecting yourself from it, and Symantec for more detailed information about the threat, and TrendMicro for an online virus scanner that will detect it.

The only way to keep your system from rebooting is to change the recovery properties of the Remote Procedure Call Service from 'Reboot the Computer' to 'Restart the Service' (This works for XP Pro as well).

You will still get many SVHCHOST.exe - Application Error' memory error popup messages, but the server won't reboot. just remember to change the recovery properties of the service back after you've fixed it.

If you need further information, there are several posts regaring this worm in the 'Security and Virus' portion of this board.

I did a clean install. Stand alone not on a network. When the Internet Explorer is opened with a dial up connection I get the 'System Shutdown' with Error Signature having an AppName of svchost.exe.

The system has never been connected to the WWW!!!

Any ideas??
