Comment:

I have 2 Win2K Servers with static ip's.
Now I want them to be networked so that they can communicate.

How can I achieve this? This is just a peer-to-peer setup.

Thanks in advance

If they already have IP addresses I would assume they are already networked. The obvious answer is, plug them both into a switch.

If the obvious answer doesn't help, try restating your question. How are the two servers currently networked, and what kind of communication do you want them to do?

The two boxes (A and B) have their own static ip's I mean made up ip's.

Do I need to configure one of them as a PDC (Primary Domain Controller) so that the second computer B can access the applications running on the computer A.

Or its like this, I am running SQL Server database server on computer A that has its own static ip. I have installed a SQL Server Client on the computer B. Now I want to connect to the SQL Server Database using the client installed on Computer B.

To do this do I have configure Win 2K Server for PDC. Both are running Win 2K Server. But both should be networked.

Configure both Computers to be on the subnet.

IP Addres for Machine A 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask for A 255.0.0.0

IP Addres for Machine B 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask for B 255.0.0.0

Make sure computer B join the domain, created by Machine A as PDC.

You can use a switch or hub to physically connect those two, if you don't have a switch or hub you can use a crossover cable to connect those two computers but you would be limited to two computers on your network.

There are no pdc/bdc's in W2K. Only peer to peer servers referred to simply as DC's [domain controllers].

There is no reason to make these DCs just to network them.

Correct subnet mask for 192.168.0.x is 255.255.255.0 not a class A subnet mask [though in truth it doesn't matter for a home network]

Your made up addresses are just fine as long as you followed the rules. For example you can 10.10.10.2 and 10.10.10.3 and they will talk but 10.10.3.10 and 10.10.10.2 won't talk without a router.

Use any search engine and search on How to network peer to peer and you will get 100's of hits for networking how tos.

Let the learning begin and best of luck!
