160gig maxtor hd

OS: win 2003 standard
CPU/Ram: 2.53 gig/512mb

hi i just got my maxtor 160 gig hd but the computer can't format it up to 160 gig it's keep stay at 30 gig. i know there is a 137 limit to some os but i don't know what i need to do to fix that problem? anyone have any ideas?

Does your motherboard IDE have a limitation? You might need a controller card. Or are you using a controller card?

Maxtor has released a utility that they claim will fix this issue.

I haven't tried it myself, but here is the link for where to get it:

as boot harddisk ure mainboard bios had to be able to manage the hdd.
the most dont do that.

the 32bit are the problem.

u have to use a patch to use the hdd in full size. under win03 or 2k
if u make partitions then the hdd will run without problems. the biggest partition shpuld not be bigger then 132gb.
