Reply: (edit)Sounds like you have it jumpered wrong.(if you just installed it) Sounds like it's burned out (if you had it working before) Sounds like you should try running the ribbon straight off the Motherboard and pin this CDRW as a master and see if it works. If it does/or doesn't - then you should know whats going on.

Reply: (edit)(BUZZER SOUND)!!!!! Wrong answer. The 8824's work great with W2K. No drivers needed cuz they are plug and play. The 8824 is one of my drives cuz I got it for $179 at Best Buy, damn fine deal. The problem (which alot of people are having and that Microsoft or Adaptec have yet to acknowledge) lies in the strange combo of W2K and Easy CD Creator/Direct CD(which come as OEMs with the 8824. What those programs do is add a hidden registry entry which in effect "hibernates" your CD ROM. I was where you were for at least a week before I found the ONLY reference to the prob on an obscure website. Email me and I'll send you the website and the article. Trust me, your CD ROM/RW is fine, its a five minute registry edit and thats it. T Craig wonkajunk@hotmail.com
