Comment:

I'm running XCOPY via a batch and i am running into an "insufficient memory" error.
I can't believe that to be true since i have 256MB.... any ideas?? it's not even a large amount of data (approx .2GB)

any help is appreciated.... thanks!

First of all: 0.2GB is about 200MB. I'm assuming here you mean kb and not gb.

How long is the file name? Shorten it to 8.3 and try copying again.

I have the exact same problem -- I'm using long filenames within qoutes inside my batch file, and it chokes with the memory error midway through a large file xcopy. You're saying I could fix this problem by using the generated shortnames within the batch file, but this would kill the destination long filenames -- not a happy prospect. Anybody have added input? Never had this problem with NT or 95/98.

Found an MS article that addresses this problem:

However, I already have SP2, so why is it still broken? (sigh).

i haven't tried SP2 yet... before i do that i'm going to look into increasing buffers for DOS. ...and...... Yes, the copy command i'm using will result in copying 200MB (.2GB) worth of files. (I'm using xcopy to perform my backups until i can get a tape process in place.)
