Ever since I reformated my HD I've been having trouble getting it to run on my own computer. Windows boots up fine when I hook it up to any computer, but on my own computer I get "Invalid system disk, hit any key to continue." I've heard this said of floppies, but never a hard drive... what could possibly cause it to fail on my computer and work fine on others?

I thank you in advance for any help - I really really need to get this thing working.

Was this disk partitioned with NTFS before you reformatted it? If so you'll need to fdisk it and change it back to FAT32. Then format and take it from there...

Good Luck,

Mike

If formating didn't work. Check your IDE cables and make sure master / slave settings are correct. If thats looks good then try another hard drive in that system.

Check your cables, BIOS settings, jumper settings on the hard drive, maybe try rebuilding your master boot record, run the Repair console off the CD, create a boot floppy to boot from and see if you can reach your Windows, boot from a Windows 98 disk and run FDISK just to see if it can view the partitions on the drive. K, not all in order, but those are some things to try. I'm betting that your MBR is messed up from going to another computer and it's trying to boot from a different drive......
