Won't Shutdown or Restart

I had this problem before, and just re-installed and it is now happening again. When i go to either shutdown or restart, it goes through norm. process of saving data and stuff, then instead of turning off or rebooting it just goes to a black screen with a cursor flashing in the upper right hand corner. Any help? I noticed it after updating from the Windows Update, shortly after DirectX 8.0a I think.

I fixed it by uninstalling Adaptec EZ CD Creator 5.0 Platinum....but now i did something to make my cd-rom's not show up....it never ends.

I see that when power supply has been AT type and Motherboard - ATX compatible. Ergo - replace: 1 - BIOS SETUP or 2 - power supply or 3 - motherboard.

I had the same problem on a abit7k-raid board. It helped when I updated the via drivers - perhaps you have the same problem.

I have same problem. Windows 2000, Adaptec DirectCD 3.01 installed. According to Adaptec site, v3.01d for Win will solve this problem but file is not located on their site. Anyone know where we can get it?

Ditto! Mine started after SRVpk#1 was added. Also caused the option to hit the power button for a normal shutdown to stop working. What a piece of work this is huh?
