Hi Guys!
I am having some problem playing *.wmv files. I searched the forum before posting the question and in one thread I found that some guy has fixed his problem after downloading ffdshow codec. I downloaded it but still the problem remains there.
The problem is that I have downloaded some files from a p-2-p network in *.wmv format. I use Windows Media Player 9. Now whenever I try to play any of those files, it goes like "Acquiring License". After Acquiring License another window opens which says "Thanks for downloading this file, click play to play the file". After i click play, nothing happens. The scroll bar in Windows Media Player starts moving as if it is playing the file but the screen remains blank and there is no audio aswell.
Can any one tell me the solution to this?
Thanks

Try WinAmp, free download, it plays all my .wmv's without a problem.

well first of all, the reason the requireing licence thing pops up is because it was probably a video from a site that required registration or a payrate. now the reason that it is blank is either because you dont have the requirements to meet the licence or the file has been corrupten or is a hoax. but yes try winamp, its a million times better than WMP
the only time i use WMP is when im in the mood to get frustrated.

Hi
Thanks for those replies, they were encouraging. But the problem is that the file is supposed to be a video file, and according to my knowledge winamp is an audio player, it wont play a video file, any ideas?
Thanks.

Winamp has had the ability to play audio as well as video for some time now. You used to have to download the plugin but the newer versions have video playback ability built in now.
