I am setting up a wirless network to share a cable connection in my home. I am having problems setting up one of the client machines using a Linksys wireless PC card (WMP11) and running Windows 2000.
The computer says that the wireless PCI card is working properly. I get excellent signal strength and excellent link conection. I can ping myself fine, but get time out errors 50%-75% of the time I try to ping other computers on the network or external IPs.
I cannot see other computers in the network from My Network Places, however, this computer does show up on the network neighborhood for the other computers on the network.
My cable ISP runs DHCP and all my settings are dynamic. I have tried updating the drivers and the fireware on the machine with the wirelss PCI card to no avail. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the network components.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how I might solve this problem? Thanks in advance.
Mark

Mark,
First, did you install the software with the card in the slot? If so, remove the card from the slot, unistall the linksys software, restart the machine, re-install the software then, insert the wireless card.
Second, make sure the you have NetBEUI installed to cammunicate with you other PC's and TCP/IP to get on the net.
Third, make sure that the WORKGROUP name is the same on all the machines, otherwise you will not see them and make sure that you share the device and or drive that you want to access.
Email me if you have any other questions...

Thanks for your help. I tried all those things. I made sure the card was out of the slot when I installed the drivers, I have a Net BEUI protocol installed, and I have all computers assigned the same workgrounp name. Still, the same problems.
Any other suggestions?

Another thing you can check is to see if the client in question is configured for the correct wireless network that's set on the Linksys wireless router (e.g., if the Linksys router's wireless network name is "linksys" make sure that it's the same on the client.
