Or can anyone point me in the right direction to solve this?
Repairing Office 2k did not work.
Uninstalling Office and reinstalling did not work.
Operating system is Windows 2000.Thanks in advance.

Frank,
it sounds like you may have a file association problem, for example you may have recently went to look at the contents of a file and when prompted to "open with" you didn't uncheck the box that states "always use this app for this file type". Check your file associations and make sure they're right. Cheers.

Hey,
This error occurs when ever I Open Word or Wordpad, not a file.
I'm not sure how file associations would interfere w/ the execution of a program

I don't know what process ID 1148 is. You can try checking task manager to see the list of processes that are running before opening word. The access violation is when the software tries to access memory it isn't supposed to be able to, memory that is reserved for other programs.
So I'd recommend ending every process you can before trying to run word, and if that fails, try opening wordpad with windows in safe mode. That will rule out background tasks, etc etc. If your pc has 64mb of ram or less (gasp) with windows 2000, perhaps the error comes from a fragmented pagefile. You can correct that by setting the page file to 0mb minimum, and 0mb maximum (which will delete it), and then make a new one. Recommended pagefile size is with minimum and max size set to 1.5x your total physical memory.

have the same problem too, though only for one person using the PC, the other two ussers having no problems, tried all of the above to no avail, any ideas out there?

After reading the post about multiple users on one PC and one person effected by this stupid error, I decided to create an additional administrator user account on my Win2k laptop. I launched Word and the error did not appear...strange beasts: Word and Win2K. I hope this helps someone else. Remember, as Administrator you can transfer all your favorites and so forth to the new account.

Have the same exact problem with the different users. Administrator and all the other user accounts work fine, but it just so happens that one account gives me that error. I've updated the service packs, reinstalled, and fixed it with the 02k cd. To no avail. E-mail me please if you know the problem. Thanks
