Winword.exe errors

When I try to open Word files fom Office2k, I get a "winword.exe has cause errors" warning and I can't open the file. This happens from time to time when I try to open word files. I reinstalled Office and this does not seem to help. I have Adobe Acrobat 5.0 installed on this machine also. Any ideas would help. Thanks, Jim.

Try renaming normal.dot file to normal.old and then open word again

I did a search on drive c:\ for the normal.dot file and it is not there? Any other ideas?

Thats strange one. It might be hided for some strange reason. If have office 2000 it should receate it. I am not sure about office 97 I think recreats it as well.
However, if have office200 and know a friend or coworker that has it as well get a copy of normal.dot and copy to the follwing folder
application data\microsoft\templates
this should correct your issule if have office 2000. if have office 97 it might work by doing same thing but not sure. I know when I had this issue and my friend, also a coworker this issue. All I did is rename the normal.dot file and it worked fine. However, we all have office 2000.

When I try to open or create a new Word document from Office 2000, I get a error message as follows:
WINWORD.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created
After that, Word is closed. Each time happens the same. Sometimes the same thing happens with Excel, Publisher and Outlook. Do you have any idea to resolve my problem?
