When I try to create or open a Word file from Office 2000, I get the following message:
WINWORD.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.
After that, Word is closed. The same thing happens frecuently with Excel, Publisher, Windows Explorer and Outlook. Do you have any idea to resolve this problem ?
Thanks !

I'm not sure why you'd get a Word error opening Windows Explorer unless you mean to you getting it when opening an Office document FROM Win Explorer.
Anyway, I would start by re-installing Office.

check in "Add-remove program" section that any programs or suite contains the product Word like Works Suite or differents versions of Office (97, 2000, 2002...)
delete all and delete "normal.dot" file (in c:)
reinstall the good product with word
and it should be work correctly

I am having the same problem - I uninstalled Office 2000 professional and reinstalled it and still have the same problem. I also looked for normal.dot in my c: drive and did not find the file anywhere.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem - I uninstalled Office 97 professional and reinstalled it and still have the same problem. Same error mgs still comes up

I get a winword.exe error after I modify and try to save to my word document.
I get also get a excel.exe error when using excel.
All files contain paste data from the other Office applications i.e.,Excel to Word, PowerPoint to Word, etc..
What are possible solutions other than reinstalling Office2000.
My environment is Win2000 Pro
and security is McAfee.

If you are using Windows 2000 try logging on as a different user and see if you still get the error message. If you don't, it is a problem with your profile. Rename your profile in c:\Documents and Settings and log back in as yourself. This will recreate your profile and the error message should stop

Please clarify on how to rename our profiles. I right clicked my name and changed it, than Win 2000 said I could not do that.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, renamed profiles, removed "dot" files and everything else I can think of. I downloaded a new Word patch and it still does not work. I did find one comment on Microsoft site that said open Exchange, open new message, expand window, close window and then restart Word. This worked for one reboot of the pc and now does not work anymore.
Anyone have any other solutions?

I have reloaded office 2000 SE and reloaded windows 98 and still get the following every time I try to open MS Word.

I installed Office 2ooo Premium CD-1 and CD-2, every time when I tried to close the word document I got the same error message. My solution is: downloading and installing office service pack sr-1 and winword.exe upgrade patch file posted on 04/05, 2002 by Microsoft. After I did that, the error's gone.
I know Microsoft will die without service packs. How smart SERVICE PACKS is!
