Does this happen 1)just by opening Word, 2)opening an existing document, with all combinations? Start by opening one of these docs on a separate pc. This will help isolate the root cause: file corruption or application corruption-Word.exe. If you have the Office 97/98/2000 CD handy or on a network share, run the install again and remove/reinstall Word if you think Word.exe is corrupted on your pc.

Hi Ale, you didn't mention which version of Office that you are running but things to check:
Has Win2000 got the latest service pack applied, i.e SP3?
Has Office got relevant service packs applied? Office 97 has SP 1 & 2, Office2000 has SP1 and SP3(SP2 is included in SP3).

Do make sure that Win2k has at least SP2 and either version of Office is at least SP1.

I'm using Office 2000. The error appears when I open an existing document or when I open a new document.

I have uninstalled and installed again office and the problem persists.

I have W2000 with SP2 and today I'm going to install Office 2000 SP3.

It's possible the last document you loaded or worked on became corrupted, and now attempts to load when you try to open Word. If you can remove all .docs that might be a candidate for causing a problem recently, and put them somewhere else, so Word cannot access that file 'automatically' that might be a fix.

Or deleting normal.dot might be a fix, if it has become corrupt.

Deleting Normal.dot would be a wise move. The fact that opening a new doc gives the same message means a larger problem than simple file corruption. Uninstall/reinstall also hasn't worked. Try replacing one or more of your memory modules. Defragging the drive wouldn't hurt either.

Now I'm installing all other aplications.

Thanks.
