Comment:
I have windows 2000 laptop that shows this winlogon.exe application error. It basically says that instruction @ some location did not match the instruction at some other location. The memory could not be "read". It gives me 2 options cancel or OK. With both options I am forced to reboot.
With this error the computer does not boot up. I can not login. It forces me reboot anyway and I come back to the same screen of error. I can not get past the login. Can some one help? Thanks

Birbal

Did you try booting to safe mode or last good configuration? F8 is your friend.

Thanks for your reply.
I have tried booting in all possible modes including safe mode, last known good config etc.
It boots up until the logon screen and when I press ctrl +alt+ del, the computer hangs and then gives me the error msg that reads " the instruction @ location 0x7685928 refers to 0x0000000 and the memory could not be "read"
This gives me 2 options either cancel or okay. Either option would eventually reboot the computer until the logon screen again.

Hope this description is sufficient. Please let me know if you or anyone else needs more details to help me out.
Thanks,

Birbal

You have a bad memory stick.

Swap it out or if more than one, take one out at a time.
