Hello, I have installed Win2K Prof. edn. and there after tried to install Oracle 8i Enterprise edn. 8.1.6 for WinNT/2000. Unfortunately, when I click on "install product" from the main screen of Oracle 8i installer, nothing happens. I am using P4 1.5, 256 MB ram machine. Looking forward help....

I have installed oracle 8i enterprise edition on win 2000 and it gave me no problem. i heard that some are restricted to specific OS. THe one i installed was for WIN NT..u can try that.

Actually it is a problem with Pentium 4 machines and not Win2K. I spent days figuring this out, but there is a bug in the Universal Installer. The work around is to 1) Create a temporary folder on the pc 2)Copty the contents of the Oracle CD to the folder in step 1. 3) Search the folder for a a filename symcjit.dll 4) Rename each copy of symcjit.dll to symcjit.old 5) Run the setup.exe form the \install\win32 directory and install Oracle 8.1.x **Make sure you don't already have a jre installed, if you do you also need to rename the symcjit.dll as well.
