Windows won't recognize my CD-RW

Windows Explorer will not recognize a blank CD in my CD-RW drive. It will read a CD with something on it, but it seems that windows 2000 sees it as a CDROM drive. I've tried everything to resolve this... reinstalled, device, drivers, changed IDE cable, changed IDE connection. I just bought a new burner and reinstalled the O/S and still the same problem! I was burning CD's up until about 2 weeks ago. If anyone knows the solution, please email me.

What are you using for your burning software? Do it give any error?

I use Nero. I do get an error message when it tried to write to the disk because windows does not see it as a CD-RW. It sees it as a CDROM.

One thing comes to mind and your description was not clear on this. Where did you get the version of nero that you are using on this system? Most CD burners that come with Nero come with a version that only works with that manufacturers CD burners and sometimes that particular model. Make sure you use the version of Nero that came with the CD Burner currently installed. Windows 2000 and prior versions do not include any CD Burner drivers. They are part of the actual cd burning software. The only thing, inside Windows, to be moderately concerned about is if the correct model number of your CD burner is "not" shown in Device Manager.
