Here is the problem, I put my computer together the other night, and it ran perfectly, and then I decided that I need to run Windows Update to kill any security flaws etc. I bought an OEM copy of Win2k PRO with SP3 integrated into it and installed in on an older computer and registered it. I found out that it wasn't that great for the other computer, so I uninstalled it and rolled back to Win98. So now on my computer that I just built, I'm using that OEM version. When I go to Windows Update, it searches for updates, and tells me there are no updates at all. I know its not true because it would give me at least 4 security hotfixes, the IE6 update, windows media player, and directx9 at least....so something is wrong...help? Don't hesitate to e-mail me.

Hmm, well i would go to the actual microsoft website and try and install them manually. You can install Direct X 9 and WMP 9 this way. Not sure about IE6 and the rest. Just a thought!

Try going into Internet Explorer --> Tools --> Internet Options --> Configuration --> View Objects. One of these should be the module that allows Windows Update to crawl through your computer for updates and such. I had the same problem and I solved it by eliminating that module and making IE to download it again.
