ok when i try to install certain programs (the ones that require windows installer) i get an error saying the installer is not available. Is there a way i can re-install the installer, or to scan my windows settings for files that may be corrupt or missing?

You also might want to run this command from the command prompt:
sfc /scannow
This will start the System File Checker which will scan all system files for any problems. You will need the Windows 2000 Pro CDROM.
