I'm running Win2k with all service packs and updates. I seem to be unable to install anything that uses the Windows Installer. I get an error message that says: "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are runing in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." I followed the directions concerning downloading the Windows Installer 2.0 from Microsoft but when I run it, it simply says I already have that. I also tried to run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility but got the same error message. I've also tried re-registering msiexec per Microsoft's KBA -315346 Does anyone know the definitive tried and tested solution for this problem please ? Thanks,

First, is there anything being logged in your Event Viewer? Second, in the Services applet, try Starting the Windows Installer service (it should be set to manual) and see if it executes. Also, note the Dependenices and other information about the service. If that doesn't help. Try starting a new post with any other information such as when this started happening (what was the last thing you were able to install). And, have you tried reinstalling Service Pack 1 and seeing what happens?
