I have a Dell Latitude CPi that I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 back in March of 2001. Everything went well and had been ntil yesterday I was using it and received this error:"Windows File Protection. Some files on your computer have been changed with files that make your system unstable, please insert your windows2000 CD ROM correct this"
After connecting the CD DRIVE, I put in the 2000 CD but it was having trouble reading the CD ROM disk, bad disk I guess. So I ended up after struggling for a couple hours, just formatting and putting windows 98 back on. I will be buying a new copy of windows 2000 and try re-installing later. Any ideas on what makes this error come up?
I also scanned all our ports and the network it was connected to and everything shows secure.
Thanks for any help

Next time, install the recovery console and do a chkdsk.
