The problem with Window File Protection as explained here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;296241
is mentioned by many people. However replacing the certificate as per the instructions does not fix my problem. (according to MS it does not matter that the cert is expired, this is for backwards compatibility)We have had 2 machines in our org show these problems in the last 2 days. Anyone have any suggestions?
Our company has also had several machines with these symptoms. 4 Critical Microsoft patches were released on the 10th, the day these errors began. The two MUST be related. If anyone can track down the exact cause and fix, please let us know.
The company i'm working at is experiencing the same problems. I will get back to you guys if i find a solution.
Found a fix that worked for me! Try this for 2000 or XP. Basically it's just a batch file that reregisters the dll's associated with cryptographic services. Try it out and report your results! http://www.certified-sbi-webmaster.com/cryptofix.bat
I tested this bat file on one of are computers so far and it works great. Thanx for the help
Worked for me too - thanks
I would like to know how you found the solution...
Great help...Problem started at our organization Tuesday and there has been a jump in machines exhibiting the error...Will try your fix Monday morning...Sounds promising. I understand what the problem is i think but what is causing it??
Virus??We have updated machines with security patches in the meantime but??
We had the same thing and ran hijackthis, adaware, and spybot and nothing worked. I ran the cryptofix.bat and it fixed it!! Three thumbs up!!!
Thanks for the help. Cryptofix.bat was just what I needed. It fixed the problem. Thanks again.
This worked for me as well. We were unable to update our virus protection software, so this has proved to be a real boon. Kudos to whomever built it!
regarding WFP, I'm trying to delete Backgammon (and other addicting games) from my XP Pro, but WFP won't let me. Any tips would be appreciated.
