I have a user with Win 2000, who states he did nothing (hey), however, all his icons in the folder side of Windows Explorer show up as black boxes. In addition, if he opens the start menu the first pop up screen (Program, Favorites, Setting, Find, and Help) are fine but if you click on Program all the program icons are black. The text portion in both Windows Explorer and the Start menu are fine so he is able to get around. Aside from this problem Windows 2000 is function fine. Some of the icons in the start menu I can manually reset if they are short cuts. I can not do any thing in Windows Explorer to change the black boxes back to folder icons. I am hoping some one, else, has encountered such a problem other wise I will reload Windows.
Thank you,

JV,
I have had an issue close to that where the icons on the desktop and the large ones on the start menu were black boxes. I tried new display drivers and played around and the only way I fixed it was going into the display properties and changing the size on the icons and appling and then changing it right back, I guess it rebuilds the icon and refreshes them. There was the same issue with 9x systems and I think you deleted a file called iconcache or something, don't quote me on that though.

Wow! Changing the size of the icons actually did fix this!! I'd be real interested in knowing how/why some of my icons turned black -- but at least there is a fix!
