I am getting the following error simply by selecting any multimedia file: Explorer.exe has generated errors and well close windows you well need to restart the program. an error log is being created.
Keep in mind this is occurring without trying to open the file, simply selecting it. The file may be an .avi or a .mp3 and it doesn't matter what program I associate with the files. I haven't seen this particular version of the problem in the archives and I can't find it in the Microsoft support site. Any thoughts out there? The most recent program added is QuickBooks Pro 6.0, but that was a month ago and I don't think this was happening back then.

explorer tries to preview the file itself..ever since internet explorer 5 (if I'm not mistaken).
if you have certain codecs installed..or certain filters (in my case for example it used to happen if i had ffdshow codec with the mpeg button ticket..known bug of ffdshow). then explorer crashes.

I had installed a new codec, but that was well before the problem occurred. Just to be safe, though, I removed the codec, but the problem persists.

I have scanned for viruses, I have increased the available space on the C: drive partition, I have run an IE Repair utility. The problem continues. Interestingly, I cannot install Service Pack 1 for IE 6. I am told I don't have enough space, that drive C: requires 429550720 KB of free space!!
I don't see a repair option on my Windows 2000 Professional upgrade CD.
Any help appreciated.
