I tried to install Linux on another partition with Powerquest boot. After not installing Linux at all and removing the partition, i set the partition with windows 2k on it, active. But suddenly it won't completely start anymore. I get the "welcome win2000" screen but it won't start my desktop. (All i see is the background) I tried to start in safe mode, and that didn't work too. All i got was a black screen with "safe mode" at the sides, but no desktop. Anyone know what i should do?

Could be a damaged partition, may need to reformat disk and create new partition.

I had the same. However, if I waited longer in the safe mode, it finally did start up. (but it took a couple of minutes. After that I restored the latest working registry I had, and all works again.
