I'm a novice computer builder and have a new computer that I just put together (5th one I've built). This is the first install of any OS on this machine. I've tried to search for answer but didn't find anything applicable.
Here's my hardware and settings:
450w Power Supply
Elitegroup Motherboard 848P-A (Intel)
3ghz P4 CPU
2-512mb Kingston DDR 3200
Hitachi 250gb SATA Hard Drive (SATA1)
HP DVD/CD Read/Write/Rewrite - in IDE2 as masterI made Windows 2000 setup boot disks and get to point where I install the Win CD in and get this message relatively soon:
"The following value in the .sif file was used by Setup is corrupted or missing:
Value 0 on the line in section [SourceDiskFiles] with key "sp4.cab."
I've tried to reinstall several times and even made new setup disks (several times). I tried to install Win98 SE, but HD is formatted to NTFS. When I try and boot off the Win98 CD, I get this error:
"Disk boot failure, insert System Disk and press Enter."
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Alan

First go here:
http://www.hexff.com/win98_install.php
And after you've got 98 on, boot to DOS and copy the w2k install files:xcopy [CD]:\i386 c:\i386\
c:\i386\winnt
[enter]M2

Some SATA HD drives have specific drivers that need to be installed for the drive to be recognized.
During the W2K setup you'll get small and very quick message on the blue line down on the left to press F6 to install any drivers you may need.
If your SATA controller has drivers or such, that is the time you would install them, otherwise the disk may not be recognized by the OS.
