Windows 2000 VPN and Windows Explorer

Hello
I have a user that is connecting to the network via VPN. She claims that when in windows explorer browsing the network via explorer is extremely painfully slow. Yet she says when she opens Word and retrieves a file off the network it is fine. She has SP2. Any suggestions? Thank you.
