Hi
I have just installed windows 2000 server onto my box (clean install). Every sound I play, whether the start up sounds or mp3's etc plays too fast. Videos play too fast as well.
Everything else works fine.
Any ideas?

Hi Scooby Doo, assuming you have verified that the audio card is compatible with 2000 let's try a couple of things:
First uninstall the sound card driver and then the card itself, reboot. Then shut it down and reinstall the card and driver, and test it. If the problem persists try to uninstall and reinstall in a different PCI or ISA slot whatever the type it is.
If this does not work then borrow (if possible), another windows 2k compatible audio card that you know works. If the PC exhibits the same characteristics with the second card as the first then we know it is not the audio card. But let's take it one step at a time.

Audio/video plays too fast with standard Win2K audio driver for AC'97 audio
Symtom: Audio and video plays too fast (about twice the normal speed).
Hardware: Asus P4B mainboard with Intel 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller.
Software: Windows 2000 SP2. Default audio driver (ichaud.sys for "Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller - 2445").
Cause: The audio driver included in Windows 2000 ist not compatible with the audio chip of the P4B mainboard.
Solution: Install the Avance Logic audio driver (alcwdm.sys) from the ASUS CD (directory \drivers\audio\alc201\win2000) or download from www.avance.com (now Realtek).
