Windows 2000 has problems shutting down on Dell machines. Has anyone found any patches or solutions to this problem?

Be more specific on explaining your problem. What happens when you try to shutdown?

I recently received a new Toshiba Tecra 8100 loaded with Windows 2000 but it will not run DVD on same drive.

I have the same problem. With my Dell machine running Win2k, right after I click Shut Down, it brings up the box saying "Saving settings..." then once that box goes away, I get stuck with a blank blue screen and a frozen mouse pointer. I hear the fan turn off, but my power light is still on. The power button doesn't work when I hit it, so I can only use the Reset button to turn the computer back on.

In response to Rani, I know this isn't a proper solution but try and press your power button for longer than 4 seconds and see if that will turn off your computer.

In response to William T. The computer is a Dell GX100. Basically, when I click "start" then "shutdown", it brings up a black screen with a memory dump error. Everything freezes and the only option is to restart the machine manually. This is a bit different to Rani's problem. When I talked to Dell they said that they have not yet completed their full support facilities for Win 2000. Maybe they'll bring some patches out soon. Who knows!

My computer doesn't support APM apparently, and thus, I have no APM tab.
