I am running Windows 2000 Server, and when I go to shut down or restart, it goes through the whole "shutting down windows" thing, then just locks up on me - never shuts down or restarts... I heard that Service Pak 1 cabn cause this problem, but I uninstalled Service Pak 1 and it still happens... No hardware conflicts showing wither... Can anyone help me? I really do not want to go through reinstalling the OS as to reinstall all my software would take about 5 hours... Thanks anyone who can give some input!
I too am having a problem shutting down windows 2ooo. Is there a fix for this somewhere online?

I had similar problem, and resolved it as follows: 1) Download the SP for Win 2000 Server and deploye (installl) it, 2) lock the screen (with the current user), 3) purge the current user using another Administrator user and login as another user.
In this process the System will write the new update to the proper places.
4) lastly make a cold start (shut down the system forcefully).
When it start it reads the new updated file and every thing will be ok!
