My windows 2000 server machine has been acting strange for the past few months. There are two issues that occur. The first is that the server just stops responding. It seems like it goes into sleep mode and cannot be woken. It does not reply to pings, you can't see anything on the screen, and the server just basically acts like it is shutdown. However, the power supply fan is still going. The second problem is the server just randomly restarts. Sometimes the server will stay up for a week, other times it will restart or stop responding every couple hours.
The only error Event Viewer reports is "previous system shutdown was unexpected".
To attempt to fix this I have:
Replaced Power Supply
Scanned for viruses and spyware
Installed spyware protection
Installed ActivePorts to make sure no rogue software was waiting for a connection
Scan Disk, Defrag, Cleared Internet Files, Deleted Temp filesAdditional info about the server:
Athlon XP Processor: 1.2 Ghz
Memory: 384 MB
Current Processor Temp: 44 C or 111 FI am not sure where to go from here. This is a server and is not used for browsing. It has all the latest security patches, and all service packs. It should be virus and spyware free. I suspect this may be a hardware problem as there really isn't much software even installed on it.
Any ideas where to go from here?
Thanks!

Have you tested the memory to see if it was good , and , or , replaced it from another machine to see if it still happens.. I've heard about a utility DocMem that supposedly will do a test of the Ram to see if it was faulty.. Don't know of anything else that it may be unless some other part of the computer is overheating ,, Perhaps someone else may have another, better Idea.
MSI 845e mb 768 mb ram and a p4 2.4n running xp ,win 2000 advanced server and win 98 SE alot to learn and I know so little !!!!
