Hi all,

The Server seems to be freezing right before the login screen comes up, it just sits there. I have tried to reboot in safemode and the same problem arises in safemode.... anyone have any ideas? The computer gets through the splash screen but right before the username/password screen comes up it freezes just before that point.

I can see from that setup screen and splash screen that drivers are loaded, services are started, but the logon process doesn’t. I tried with safe mode (with or without networking) and also with Last Known Good Configuration. This marks the end of the early startup process. But the same thing.

I thought one of the hard drives is corrupt so I even done the chkdsk/r from the recovery console. But the report says no bad sector or anything. I was going to run fixmbr and fixboot but then for some reason FIXMBR doesn’t trigger anything.

The think the start up registry is corrupted for some reason. Before I restarted the sever, I could see that I couldn’t run Disk Defrag. That’s the reason why I restarted the machine and that’s why all this problem occurs.

Since I have never installed Windows 2000 Server with Active Directory and Citrix, I am quite hesitant to format and reinstall everything although I do have all the data back up and system state back up.

Any suggestion or help would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Tin

One of the hard drives? How many are there? I would disconnect everything, printers, CDROMs, floppy, and check to see that the memory sticks are seated properly. That way you can eliminate hardware as a cause. I had something like that and I didn't reconnect the printer cable properly.
