I've had Win 2k pro installed for a few months and the installation has just
developed the following error: After booting normally a program error
warning appears stating "explorer.exe has generated errors and will be
closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is
being created"After this warning is acknowledged and a few seconds have elapsed, the same
problem appears again and so on. This makes it impossible to access any of
the other programs and I've tried all of the possible solutions I can think
of: restarting, reinstalling and repairing. Can anyone suggest what I need to do?

Can you get to the desktop by using the F8 key at the scrole bar screen, then select Safe Mode?
You really need to get to the Control Panel and look up the error log, under "Administrative Tools". This will give you a great deal of help fixing this problem.
It sounds like a hardware problem but if you have had it running for a few months then I tend to think that it must be something that you just installed.
If you can't get into the system at all then you'll need to start the system with the 4 boot disks and the emergency repair disk. If you didn't make them you can download them from HERE
Look at the top listing (NT 4/5) and follow the links. Download the disks and after you make the 5 disks then start the system and try to fix what's broke.
If you have always had trouble with this unit and just now asked for help then it could be the Bios need to be upgraded.

Hello,
I was having this problem too running 2k. The problem for me was my anti-virus software(McAfee). Do you have anti-virus software? This is running constantly in the backroung checking files and folders.
If it stops running it causes errors in the explorer. Ideally you should restart after you see this error. If you don't the error will re-appear. Harmless really.Paul
