Does anyone know what the work around is for installing netscape 4.08 on windows 2000. I've installed it as the administrator, and it works fine but as a normal user it crashes, sometimes error messages saying unable to update the registry. ??

Thanks

Make sure that the "normal user" account has admin privileges.

Netscape 4.08 is NOT y2k compatible and may not be w2k compatible. Netscape 4.78 is the updated version and your best bet

Work Around is NOT to run Netscape at all. Just Kidding. The issue is that Nutscrape creates a User Profile for each person that starts it (If multiple users use the same PC, with Network Login Credentials)

Netscape 6, I think has an ALL users use default Credentials, could be wrong on that. I installed it just to see it, it's Slow.

But the ultiamte work around besides those is to Give the Users Power User rights (or Admin Rights) on the LCOAL Windows 2000 Pro machine (not the Network).

That way when Nutscrape wants to wrtie to the registry it can on the Local PC only. This creates a security challange however on the local PCs. But hey if that's whats needed for Nutscrape, what ya gonna do. Once the profile has been created you can put the User Back to Normal user, as long as they don't need to change any of their Netscape Settings. It's really, really Slow

Did you try placing the shortcut on D:\documents&setting\allusers\desktop.basically you can drag the icon to this folder using windows explorer. If you do this this program will be put in winnt\profiles\allusers\desktop.This will enable users to have a common profile for this program in the NTuser.dat Try this and let me know whether this works
