Hi There-
I've installed the win2k for the first time at our work and during the install, I gave the Administrator password as xyz (three characters). And after the rebooting, even though I enter the above said password, it is not allowing me login to the computer, saying that password is not correct.
Any Help in this regards is much appreciated.

Install a second version as:
c:\temp\winnt-t
It will set itself as default to boot; it will present you with a fresh Admin login (for this temp version). Leave the password blank (this version is not going to be around very long...) and boot through to the temp version.
Reset default OS to boot to the original version; ensure time to boot is at least 10secs. (perhaps even the default 30secs.?).
Locate (via Explorer) the SAM file in the original version (winnt\system32\config) and delete it.
Reboot to original version; it will present you with a fresh Admin login for this (original) version; pick your password (perhaps keep a safe/secure/private copy somewhere?) and you're back in.
Once in OK, locate and dlete (via Explorer) the c:\temp\winnt-t version.
Job done - all it took time/effort...
For future reference, the following post includes the above and a few other options... one of which is the Linux boot-disk option; it being the other 'freebie' solution.
http://www.computing.net/windowsnt/wwwboard/forum/17360.html
Note: Deleting the SAM file deletes all account/user info, so any you may have established previously will have to be re-established.

this looks like it might work...and I will try it out first thing tomorrow morning as it is time to leave for today(1745EST)...
thanks
with regards,
Ratnakar

HEY!!!!
I had the same exact problem yesturday. Do a search in the win2000 forum and find the Linux boot disk option, as was mentioned above. Trvlr was right-it takes time but it's free and it works. If you have any questions on doing this, email me. Once you get that boot disk made, it's a piece of cake from there on out. And (I know I already said this) but it's FREE....can't get any better than that.
