Comment:

I am having trouble mapping a drive on a Windows 2000 workstation from a windows 2000 server. I get the following error

System Error 1385
Logon Failure: The user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

I orginally thought it could have something to do with the rights assigned to the user, but after giving that user administrator rights I still get the same mess. Any help you guys could ofer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time, Jimmy

Does that user have a user account setup on the server?

Why are you trying to map from a Server to a drive on a Workstation? It should be the other way around...you map a Server drive FROM a Workstation.

Either way, ft has a good point. You need to make sure that there is an identical account on both machines. Otherwise, you can't get authentication. Especially if it's not a Domain situation.

That error sounds more like that user doesn't have Logon Locally rights to the server console. But if he can log into the server console, then it may be that user doesn't have network access to that workstation. AND don't use a blank password.

Check gpedit.msc on both systems in:

Computer Config/Win Settings/Sec Settings/
Local Policies/User Rights Assignment:
Access this computer over the network
Deny Logon Locally

If the user is a member of one of the groups that is listed, even having Admin rights won't help (Denied rights always win).
