I was cleaning out my computer and must have erased something bad. When I restart my computer I dont get a taskbar or icons and when i hit control alt del and click file run and type explorer.exe they pop up but then i get at error on "cannot find "user name" (or one of its components)" or something like that and then the taskbar and icons go away. I tryed opening in safe mode and it does the same thing. I would do a system restoration but I lost the CD for restoring it. It doesnt have a floppy drive either. What do I do?

"... but I lost the CD "

That was incredibly careless of you - you can either find a Win2K installation CD and perform a repair - - or give up now

I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.

Look in the root of your C drive and see if you have an "i386" folder. If you do you can do an inplace install of 2k by running winnt32.exe.

If not, what jboy said.
