Hi,
We have a few NEC Powermate PC's that need Windows reinstalling. We do not have the CD's that came with them ... so I found an original CD that came with a different machine. When I try and install Windows with that CD and type the CD key off the NECs it does not work.

If the CD you used is from a very similiar machine it should work. Use the key on the case.

I've tried a few different Windows 2000 CDs and used the key code off the case, but nothing seems to work. I'm guessing NEC wont have any stock of the original CD as its so old?
Any more ideas?

Some cds are OEM and others retail.
Look at the ceo sticker is it oem or retail.
Open the I386 file on the cd and using notepad open the setupp.ini file.
