Windows 2000 freezing on startup

When I start my computer it gets to the Starting Windows 2000 screen. It makes it about 75% of the way through the progress bar and then the computer completely freezes.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? Thank you.

New problem that just started after a new hardware or software program installation? Is this a new 2000 installation? Have you tried getting into the "safe mode"?
