Im going to build a pc wtih an amd x2 4400+. I want to put windows 2000 on it as i much prefer it to xp. Is there any real advantages of using xp with this new kind of hardware (its 32bit xp). Im not going to buy windows xp 64 any time soon as i don't see much point with so few 64bit apps/games and i was wondering if the x2 and new hardware run fine in 2000.

IMHO Windows 2000 + SP4 is as good & as stable as XP if not more so. Go for it. Rgds.

Here are 2 reasons I like XP
System Restore feature of xp is worth $200 to me. Plus the fact that IE7 browser will only be usable for XP and newer.
If money is tight stick with win2000.

With a good firewall & AV just think what you are missing, all those interminable updates, all the holes built into XP and all that registration crap if you have to re-install that heap of junk. Watch it from a distance, it's a spectator sport.

Don't get suckered by all the XP SP2 security FUD. A well equipped W2k is more secure and nimble.
"System Restore" of XP is of limited use and hopelessly unreliable. You're much better off w/ Ghost 2003 or Acronis...and maybe a second hard drive.
XP's "Product Activation" is a greedy assault on users. It's like buying a VHS tape that only plays on one VCR.

i've got my pc now and use 2000. I used the amd64 version of xp trial and really wasn't impressed. It has very limited driver support so my tv tuner card was useless. The stupid windows firewall kept setting its self on. I even made it crash once. I really don't care if my windows isn't going to look ever so closer to mac os x. (xp then vista)
Summary: Hi, I have changed a computer on a windows 2000 network (all PCs are win2k) due to a power supply blowout. The network worked perfectly before but now I am getting Network path not found error message...
Summary: I just want to know, when is the release of the windows millenium, which is for home users coming out, so i can use my modem and connect to the internet, because when you use the internet on windows 2...
