I am running windows 200 professional, and i heard that there was a personal firewall included in the os. Is that incorrect? I cant find it anywhere, even after installing IIS. How about any other versions? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Follow these steps exactly and you'll see what you asked about.

1. Start
2. Settings
3. Network and Dial-up Connections
4. right mouse click on "Local Area Connection" icon
5. click on Properties - this will bring up the Local Area Connection Properties window
6. highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click on the Properties button
7. click on the Advanced... button
8. under the Options tab.. you will see settings for "IP security" and "TCP/IP filtering"

There ya go.. play around with this and learn. You can test out your security by going to this site and testing your ports:

hope that helped ya...

The win2k_Pro has NAT(Network Address Translation) which makes feasible outbound connections to the internet initiated at PCs behind the win2k_Pro machine. One of many NAT feautures, as any firewall-proxy, is to keep hidden the identities of the PCs behind it to the outsiders! Since you are not going to route through a Win2K_Pro, because you would need Win2k_AS, that should be enough...

Enough?
