Hey everyone. I bought my computer in october of 02 and naturally everything worked just fine. this september cd-r drive stopped recognizing cd-r/rw's and also will not burn a cd. It was running winXP home. well the warrenty expired before i got it fixed so gateway is no help anymore. I ended up installing win2kpro on another hard drive and it still wouldn't burn. And just today i formatted the old hard drive and put 2k pro on that one and it still will not burn or recignize a cd. I have been to the lite-on site, which is the manuf. of my cd drive and they have no drivers for me, also i have tried multiple burning programs and nothing seems to work. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi Steve!
I know wath you mean.
I have the same prob. My win2kpro doesn't accept my CDRW. It can see it, even open it but doen't read any disk. (not even Roxio's.. it just says "please insert a blank disk"..)

I updated the chipset drivers (VIA), I installed Nero and Roxio.. nothing helps.

What I didn't do is to update the BIOS. Have you?

Is anyone who have a suggestion?
thanks,

PS: BTW, I checked it i a lot of sites and it seems to be a common prob. but nowhere read a real solution.. :(

I have same prob. Loaded Norton 2004 and applied windows critical updates and all removable media quit working. Error msg when accessing says "A:\ or D:\ or F:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function".
floppy is generic, D:\ is Pioneer dvd-106 and F:\ is Plextor CD-r. I updated chipset drivers. SP4 is installed (ref. MS article 260910). Can't upgrade BIOS without floppy. I'm stuck. Any help would be apprec.
