Hello,
I am trying to customize Windows 2000 Server so that when I log in with a certain login name the Start menu is disabled. I only want this to happen with ONE login. Logging in with another login name/password will let me have the start menu and options I need. I was looking at the Active Directory, but is there an easier way to do that then using Active Directory? Thanks for the info...rockshox

Depending on if you're talking about logging in through the network to a server or else directly... you might try looking into group policies.....

Hello,
Yea I have been doing more research and have found the Group Policies stuff...I think that is what I want. What I can't figure out is how to implement a group policy only for a certain User or User Group. If you know how to do that let me know....thanks...rockshox

To implement it for one specific user you need a Server and a network domain. Otherwise all you can configure is a local computer policy (which affects ALL users on that machine). With some tweeking of the desktop and start menus you can get a semi useful policy (as long as your other users aren't Administrators of that machine....

set up a server and domain, then with the AD Users and Computers Snapin create an organizational unit, create your user int he OU (or move him there) and then in the properties of the OU create a new GPO and define the user configuration, anyone you put in the OU will inherit those settings. o, and depending on your config you may want to select 'Block Policy Inheritance'
